Buttonwood Nature Center will present a community program, Memories & Stories of Happel’s Meadow, on Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Summit Fire Hall, 13063 Monterey Lane in Blue Ridge Summit. Admission is free and all are welcome.
Arranged in partnership with Antietam Watershed Association, the program will spotlight Happel’s Meadow in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.
Formerly known as Bear Swamp, the 78-acre Happel’s Meadow Wetlands is located along PA Route 16 six miles east of Waynesboro. According to the Washington Township website, it is recognized as a significant wetland because of its size and its upland location.
“This community program is an opportunity to learn about Happel’s Meadow through the reminiscences and memories of nearby residents,” said Pam Rowland, event organizer and Buttonwood’s educational site coordinator.

Any current or former residents of the area around Happel’s Meadow—or anyone who has spent time there—are invited to attend and share their memories and stories.
“If anyone just wants to listen, or doesn’t have stories to share, they are welcome too,” Rowland said.
