As of Monday, March 10, 2025, all open burning will be prohibited in Washington Township, pursuant to Chapter 128 of the Code of the Township of Washington, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. This announcement was made by the Washington Township Board of Supervisors and confirmed by Township Manager Vernon Ashway.
The ban strictly prohibits residents from starting or maintaining open fires outdoors for any purpose without prior approval from the township. Those wishing to burn must submit a written application to the township detailing the materials to be burned, the location of the burn, preventive measures to ensure containment, and the proximity of water supplies to extinguish and control the fire.
